Acronyms and Abbreviations

This is a user defined and administered list of acronyms and abbreviations common to the agricultural community. Place new entries in their correct order. Use the following format example:

USDA. United States Department of Agriculture. Department of the United States government that provides leadership on food, agriculture, natural resources, and related issues based on sound public policy, the best available science, and efficient management.


 

AMA. Agricultural Management Assistance. An NRCS program that provides cost share assistance to agricultural producers to voluntarily address issues such as water management, water quality, and erosion control by incorporating conservation into their farming operations.    

EQIP. Environmental Quality Incentives Program.  An NRCS program that provides cost share assistance to agricultural producers and ranchers to promote agricultural production, forest management, and environmental quality as compatible national goals.  

NRCS. Natural Resources Conservation Service. Is an agency of the USDA that works with landowners through conservation planning and assistance designed to benefit the soil, water, air, plants, and animals that result in productive lands and healthy ecosystems.

NDVI. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index. Index calculated from the visible and near-infrared light reflected by healthy and unhealthy vegetation.
