I'm using the selection tools to select a feature and I can't select any feature

I'm using the selection tools to select a feature. However, no matter whether I click on them or draw features around them, there's no way to get them selected. Is there anything left I can do?

Solution

To select an item in a layer, you must make the layer active first. Click on the Reference Panel to the left of your window, on the layer containing the item you want to select. Then try selecting it with any selection tool.
