Download WFS objects
From Wikiagro.com
The Download WFS tool
is used to download objects (polygons, lines or points) form the WFS services.
WFS stands for Web Features Service - a standard protocol for getting access to vector features over the Internet
GeoAgro GIS uses this open standard and allows you to connect to WFS data sources, public and private. The most commonly used application is to access Soils Map Units from the USDA Web Soil Survey
To use this tool, you can follow these steps:
1. Select from the Reference Panel the layer to which you want to download the objects, by clicking on it. In this example, we will select the Soils layer.
2. Click on Download WFS objects
from the edition panel. Please note that objects that are totally or partially in the the visible area of the map will be downloaded.
Thus, it's a good idea to zoom in to the minimum project area to avoid unnecessary download of information
3. The following window will pop up.
1. URL: Select the WFS service address. By default it will bring the Web Soil Survey address with features in Geographic Coordinates. You may click on the Star icon at the right of the URL text box to see available WFS Services.
2. Layer: Select from the available layers on the server, the one that you want to download. It's recommended to select 'MapUnitPolyExtended
3. Avoid Duplicating Objects: Prevents adding an object more than once from several downloads for the same zone. For this is necessary to identify an ID; in the 'unique values field', select 'OBJECTID' as the identifier.
4. Copy object data: It allows to associate the source layer data attributes or Columns, to the destination layer data attributes or Columns. Please note that these columns are automatically matched in our 'Soils' example layer, because it has been assigned a 'SsurgoSoils' data structure, which matches the Web Soil Survey. 5. Click on Accept to start the download and import the data. It may take some time to download and import the data, depending on the download area. As a result, you will have Soils downloaded for your project area, as shown in the figure below.
