Supported file types

When trying to import satellite imagery (or any type), please take into account what image formats are supported in GeoAgro GIS.

The following table shows the image formats supported by GeoAgro GIS, and whether they need to have an additional world file. A world file is a text file that contains specially formatted coordinate information about where the image is in relation to the surface of the earth.

Image format Supported by GeoAgro GIS World File needed World File format
PNG YES YES PGW
TIF YES YES TFW
SID YES YES SDW
ECW YES NO
JP2 YES NO
BIL YES YES BLW
JPG, JPEG YES YES JGW

Note Note: Please keep in mind that the formats that work best in GAGIS are ECW and TIF (with no compression), this means that the system will be more responsive with this type of images

Warning Warning: The images should not be projected, that is, in Geographic Coordinate System - Datum WGS84.

If you have projected imagery that you wish to import to your GAGIS project, they must be exported using the program that generated them to one of the formats listed above and in GCS WGS84.
