It allows to transform line or polygon objects.

Start by selecting the Offset tool from the drawing toolbar.

NOTE: This tool works with existing objects, therefore you need to select and object to see this option as available.

  1. Offset:  Separation between the existing object and the new object.
Units:  Choose the units of measurement.
  2. Target Layer:  Select the layer where you want to save the new object.
  3. Offset type
Line to Polygon (selected object is a line, and target layer is polygon).

    - Add points to create an adjacent polygon: the resulting object will keep a polyline shape, but it will be offset by the distance entered in "Offset".
    - Close polyline to convert to a polygon: it joins the last point with the first one, creating a closed shape.
Polygon to line (selected object is a polygon, and target layer is a line).Image:GIS_gis_Edit_21_04.jpg
    - Eliminate the union between the first and last points: This command "brakes" the polygon.
    - Repeat last point to close a polygon: This command will produce a polyline that follows the shape of the selected polygon.

    - Don't Modify: Duplicates an object with the dimensions of the selected object, and with a offset distance equal to the "Offset" field.
    - Substract the polygons: it works the same way as the previous option, except that the resulting shape has the original object "substracted".
  4. Show/Hide original objects:  this option is used for preview the results.
