Where to Do the Exercises
The first step to complete the exercises in this tutorial is to set up the computer you will be working on. If you completed our Getting Started Course, your system and datasets are ready to go through this learning guide. You will be able to use our GeoAgro GIS trial version for 2 months. From now on, you are ready to begin with any learning guide you wish.
Exercise 01 – Download plan data from Workgroups
In this exercise you will learn to download to your computer plan data uploaded by the NRCS or MFS. First, you will log in the GeoAgro Workgroups database. Then, you will import your plan project from Workgroups into GIS and download the required layers.
Log in Workgroups database
Click on the “Workgroups” tab to enter GeoAgro Workgroups.
A log in window will pop up. Please complete with the username, password and database GeoAgro provided you.
Download the plan data layers
Click on the “Maine Forestry” folder to open it.
Select the folder named with your initials (in this example it's called “SF1”) and click on “Download”. Wait for the download to complete
Click on the “GIS” tab to go back to the GIS module.
Five of your layers will have updated; “Stand types” and “Property boundary” grouped under “Plan development” and Practices points, polygons and lines grouped under “Conservation practices”.
Exercise 02 – Review the plan data
In this exercise you will learn how to review the plan data you just downloaded. First, you will check the data created by the stewardship forester and review any changes there might have been. Then, you will check out the layers for offline editing. Finally, you edit attributes and upload the changes.
Check the downloaded data
Double click on the “Practices polygon” layer to zoom to it.Select it with the Rectangle Selection tool
Open the practice attributes by clicking on “Edit the selected object's data”.
Notice the “Recurring” attribute is empty (the checkbox is neither empty nor ticked). You realise now that you should have filled it, so that's what you'll do in the following steps.
Check out the layers for offline editing
Click on the “Workgroup” tab to go back to it. A message will ask you if you want to save your changes in GIS. Click “Yes” if you want to save your work from the last time you saved; otherwise click “No”. If you answered “Yes”, when the saving is done, click on “Accept”Click on the “Maine Forestry” folder to open it.
Select the folder “SF1” and click on “Edit” to check out for editing all the layers it contains.
Fill the “Requested” attribute
Go back to the GIS module to check the “Requested” box.
Upload your modifications proceeding the way you did in Delivering a plan
