Using Cplanner to upload data to NCPDB

In this learning guide, you will learn to use GeoAgro Cplanner to upload a plan applying for EQIP to the NCPDB. You will first login the NCPDB and check out the appropiate customer folder. Then, you will add the plan data and upload your modifications.

Where to Do the Exercises
The first step to complete the exercises in this tutorial is to set up the computer you will be working on. If you completed our Getting Started Course, your system and datasets are ready to go through this learning guide. You will be able to use our GeoAgro GIS trial version for 2 months. From now on, you are ready to begin with any learning guide you wish.
Exercise 01 – Check out the required customer folder
In this exercise you will learn to use Cplanner to log in the National Conservation Planning Database (NCPDB), search for customer folders, download a particular customer folder in read only mode, and finally check out the folder for editing.
Download and install GeoAgro Cplanner
Click on GeoAgro CPlanner 0.1.1.109 to download Cplanner.
Go to the folder where you unzipped the installer and double click on "Setup.exe" to start the installer.
The “Cplanner Setup Wizard” will start automatically. Select “Next” in the window below.
Before the installation of the program, you need to accept the two product licence agreements by clicking on “I Agree”.
In the "Choose components" window, click on both checkboxes and click on "Next".
In "Choose Install Location", click on "Install" to install to the default folder and wait for the installation to complete.
Once it's completed, click on "Close" to close the Setup Wizard.
Log in Cplanner using USDA e-authentication
Start CPlanner (Go to the start menu or double click on the CPlanner icon in your desktop).
Log in with your e-authentication user and password data and click on “Login”.
Search for customer folders
The initial screen will show you your conservation plans. Select “Kennebec County” and click on “Go Search”.
This will bring the list of Conservation folders available for your user in Kennebec County.
The conservation plans shown on the left panel are obtained directly from NRCS Servers. The status bar on the lower side of the screen informs you of the status of your operations.
Download a customer folder in read only mode
Move over to the left panel and click on the “der----Geoagro1” customer folder to select it.
Click on “Read Only Copy” to download a read-only copy.You'll notice the folder you downloaded is now shown on the right panel, which contains the customer folders that are available locally (in your computer). The pink colour means it's in read-only mode.
Check-out a customer folder for editing
On the right panel, click on the “der----Geoagro1” folder to select it and click on “Delete folder” to delete the folder.
A window will pop up asking for your confirmation. Click on ”Yes, I'm sure”. You'll notice the customer folder has disappeared from the right panel. On the left panel, click on the “der----Geoagro1” folder to select it. Click on “Check out” to download an editable copy of the customer folder and wait for the download to complete.
You'll notice the folder you downloaded now appears again on the right panel, which contains the customer folders that are available locally (in your computer). This time it's coloured green; that means it's in editable mode.
Exercise 02 – Adding data to a customer folder
In this exercise you will learn how to use Cplanner to upload forest management practices to the National Conservation Planning Database (NCPDB). First, you will open a folder you previously ckecked out for editing. Then, you will create a new conservation plan for your plan data. Then, you will add the land unit and tract where the practice will be performed. Then, you will add a new practice. Finally, you will upload the new practice to the NCPDB.
Open a customer folder for editing
On the right panel, click on the “der----Geoagro1” folder to select it and click on “Open folder” to open it.
Cplanner will open the Customer folder window.
Create a new conservation plan
Click on “New item”Click on “Conservation plan” and then on “Next”
Enter the new forest management plan name and click on “Next”
Click on “Finish”. The new Forest management plan will show up.Add tract and land unit
Click on “New item”
The “New item” window will pop up. Click on “Land unit” and then click on “Next”
In “Select a Conservation Plan”, select your new forest management plan.
In “Add a land unit” complete the form as shown below:
Complete the land unit properties as shown below and click on “Next”In the “Final step” window, click on “Finish”.
Add a new conservation practice
Click on Land unit “1” under “Tract 1” on the new forest management plan to select it.
The “New item” window will pop up. Click on “Scheduled practice” and then click on “Next”.
In “Select a Conservation Plan”, select your new forest management plan.
In “Select a land unit...” click the checkbox for land unit 1 and click on “Next”
In “Select the datasource of the scheduled practices” click on “Available practices” and click on “Next”.
A list of available practices will come up. Look for the “Tree/Shrub pruning”, practice code 660.Check it to select the practice. Click on “Next”
Cplanner will move on to the “Add practice properties” window. Click on “Narrative” to select a narrative.
Select the second-listed narrative (code 00S). Click on “Ok”
In “Planned amount” enter the number of acres that will be pruned.In “Planned date” enter the date planned for the practice.
Click on “Recurring practice” to enter the recurrence. Click on “OK”
Complete the form as seen below.
Leave the “Additional info...” form blank and click on “Next”.
In the “Final step” window, click on “Finish”. Your practices will appear listed under the corresponding land unit.
Upload your additions
Click on “Check in” to upload your newly created practices and wait for the download to complete.
You'll notice the customer folder has disappeared from the right panel and is coloured green on the left panel.
